Equipment

  • Small mixing bowl
  • Fork for mixing
  • Miniature baking tray or silicone mold
  • Oven

Ingredients

  • 1 medium carrot finely grated
  • 2 tbsp olled oats
  • 1 tsp hamster-safe flou whole wheat, oat, or coconut flour
  • 1 small pinch of hamster-safe unsweetened dried frui

Instructions

  • Preheat the Oven: Start by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C). Safety first, my dear hamster enthusiasts, so if you're not comfortable using the oven, ask for help from someone who is
  • Mix the Dry Ingredients: In your small mixing bowl, whisk together the rolled oats and hamster-safe flour. These ingredients will form the base of our carrot cakes, adding texture and helping everything stick together.
  • Add the Carrot: Take your finely grated carrot and fold it into the mix. Carrots are not only a sweet treat for hamsters but also a fantastic source of vitamin A, which is great for their little eyes
  • Form the Cakes: Once the mixture is well combined, take tiny portions and gently press them into your miniature baking tray or silicone mold. You're aiming for bite-sized cakes that are just the right size for your hamster to handle.
  • Bake with Love: Place your tray or mold into the oven and bake for about 10 minutes. You're looking for a slight firmness on the outside, while still being soft on the inside. Keep a close eye on them to prevent over-baking.
  • Cool Down: After baking, let the cakes cool completely before attempting to pop them out of the tray or mold. We wouldn't want to upset those tiny hamster tongues with something too hot.
  • Add a Topping (Optional): If you chose to use a topping, now is the time to sprinkle a tiny bit of unsweetened dried fruit on top of each cake for an extra special touch.
  • Serve with Care: Offer a Little Critter's Carrot Cake to your hamster as a special treat. Remember, these are quite rich, so they shouldn't replace their regular diet but serve as an occasional delight.
